The Nulldomain Movie Review: "The Butterfly Effect"

Ok... The Perfect Score wasn't all that great... but thats about what I expected... The Butterfly Effect, however, dramaticaly surpassed any and all my expectations. I finally saw Donnie Darko a couple months ago.. and found it to be unbelievable great. There are plenty of other reviews out there for that.. so I'll wait until I see the Directors Cut to post a review of that...

Now... The Butterfly Effect... Now... we watched the Directors Cut.. and I'm not sure what changed from the theatrical version, but, regardless, this was probably the best movie I've ever seen. Lord Of The Rings was great. Donnie Darko was fscking awesome. Lost in Translation was just great as well. The Butterfly Effect surpassed them all. Chaos Theory. Time Travel. Love. These key ideas, and more basically created the movie. Donnie Darko had a very similar underlying theme, but this was a bit more. Donnie Darko's love was of Gretchen. Evan's love of his mother and family and friends.

Both movies had an underlying plot of time travel. In The Butterfly Effect, it came down to changing events in your past via repressed memories. Evan had blackouts in which he doesn't remember anything. These are the times that he is able to return to and alter what he says and does. In the end it all comes down to the same sacrifice which you will need to find for yourself.

In isn't often that you see a movie that makes you think about your life and the events that occur. Nor is it often that you see a movie that makes you go 'Wow' and make you want to cry. This is a movie that does just that.

Now.. I don't normally read reviews before I see a movie, because I want to see a movie because it interests me, not because of some critic. However, I do go on the opinions of my friends and family for the most part. And, regardless of other reviews you may have read... The Butterfly Effect was great. All I can say is you need to see this movie if you haven't yet. It really is the first movie that I feel I must buy due to the nature of its impact. (ok.. second... but I'm waiting for the Directors Cut of Donnie Darko...).

Basically.. See the movie. It really is worth it.
