Somewhere near four weeks ago, I mentioned the site on 'Our Beer', the 'open source' beer. When I saw that, I thought, damn, that looks good, and damn, brewing my own beer sounds like fun. Heck, I need a new hobby, so why not.
Now, I've been looking into this stuff quite a bit for the last week. I don't recall what inspired me, but I thought, damn, I really want to do this. It sounds like a lot of fun, and might be able to make some decent beer, and eventually wine, mead, cider, etc. Heck, might even try to make some scotch or whiskey some day.
So, this morning, I went over to say hi to mom and grandma, brought them over some mail, etc. We got to talking, and it turns out, my grandpa (who passed away around twelve years ago) used to make beer and wine as well. And as it turns out, we still had his old bench capper and caps! They now sit on my kitchen counter along side a large pressure cooker (it should work great for a brew pot), and the $100 worth of brewing supplies I bought earlier (Glass Carboy, Fermenter buckett, stuff for a light wheat beer, aka weissbier, etc).
Unfortunately, I don't have time tonight to really try making this first batch, nor do I have a decent place to store the wort while it ferments, but I shall start soon!
I also plan on taking and posting pictures as well to follow the project.
Stay tuned, and I'll keep you all updated with Adventures in Homebrewing!
