PAX Update - Day 2 Wrap Up

Ok, 12:31pm on Sunday. I had considered posting last night, but sleep seemed like a better idea. I was going to do a scavenger hunt, but due to various reasons, it looks like that probably won't be done. I'll explain in the final PAX 2005 post tonight or tomorrow.

Anyways, yesterday was lots of wandering around. The only really interesting panel that I attended was the Make Monday's Strip that I already talked about in yesterdays post, so I won't worry about that.

Other then that, most of the day was spent wandering around, checking out stuff like the D&D tournaments, getting free stuff, etc. I signed up to win a GeForce 7800 GTS. I don't expect to win, but hey, free shirt, and I may win other stuff too. We'll see. I also got a free AMD shirt and post, and really that was about it. Got some Bawls. Tried SnoBawls. That stuff is good shit. I think I mentioned it yesterday as well, but if not, imagine Bawls turned into a slurpee drink. It's absolutely delicious. I need a machine of my own now ;)

So, pretty average day, and then the concert. Round 4 of the Omegathon kicked off the concert. The 8 remaining Omeganaughts played, what I think was, Karaoke Revolution Party (or some other similar game). Tycho started off singing a duet of My Immortal by Evanescense. I must say, it was awesome, I had no idea he could really sing that well. But anyways, the set was 4 songs, two omeganaughts for each song, duet. Songs sang included: Beat It, Flashdance ... I got a feeling, Someday (by Nickelback I believe), and Careless Whisper (although not in that order). It really was quite enjoyable. Afterwards, Connie Lin performed some Final Fantasy stuff. MC Frontalot came up afterwards, and did a fairly good job, although, I wasn't all that impressed with the performance. He did a pretty good job, but the mixing needed work, although it did get better as his set went on. (He started with the Penny Arcade Theme song, obviously, and it really could have sounded better). Afterwards, MC Chris came up. He really does have some decent music, a very interesting way of performing, and rather.. blunt. I did enjoy it, although for the most part, it sounded like he was wrapping over already pre-recorded stuff. But whatever. And then the Minibosses. They were freaking awesome. They did have to cut their set short a little bit because MC Chris went on longer then expected, but they still put on an awesome show either way. Fun night.

As for today. I was lazy. I didn't get up until around 10. I finally got here around 11. But it's been worth it so far. I didn't realize it yesterday, but Turbine Games was/is here. They are the people that are working with WotC to make Dungeon and Dragons Online. I even got to play a beta/demo, and for completing the mission, I have an official invitation into the open beta starting in mid September. W00t! I talked to a couple of the Turbine guys about it as well. Yes, it has features of an MMO, but in terms of the world, not so much. They are quite literally trying to bring the Pen and Paper world into the Online computer gaming world. Small worlds, built for small groups. The demo was fun. The game looks beautiful. The gameplay is pretty damn nice too. And the game looks pretty stable as well. It isn't perfect, but it's well on its way. Oh, and Q1 of 2006. (I heard Spring from one of the guys as well, so, I'm guessing March/April. W00t!).

The City of Heroes guys are here as well with CoH games up to play, and Lineage II. I also walked by and noticed the trailer for City of Villians being played. That looks freaking awesome too. I just hope they will allow the two to work together so heroes and villians can fight each other in the same world. Now *THAT* would rule.

Unfortunately, I'm poor, and cannot afford to get into another MMO, (I also have no time), but CoH/CoV does look like something I'd like to try (and of course DDO). Too many cool games dammit!

Also, Garage Games is here showing off the Torque game engine. Flying Lab Software is here as well showing off Pirates of the Burning Sea. It looks beautiful, but I haven't tried it yet. I might yet, but we'll see. Other then that, theres yet another MMO, Vanguard. I don't know much about it, haven't really felt like talking to people, but it does look similar to Everquest in some ways. (Similar UI). Depending on how things work out, I might post more on these later, we'll see. Vivendi Universal is here as well showing of The Hulk and F.E.A.R. F.E.A.R. Does look damn cool, and I have a demo. I was tempted to try it here, but, so many people, so little time. My box will work just fine.

I think that about wraps it up for now. The final PA panel starts in an hour, so I'm gonna start heading toward it to try and get a good seat. If I have time, I'll post a final PAX post tonight, if not, it'll be Monday night. I will say this before I go though. PAX rules. It was awesome this year, being able to actually be here for 99% of it. Last year I think I was here for maybe a total of four hours or so. Although, a year ago, I wasn't as interested in consoles gaming and such either. Although I can feel that changing. PAX makes me really want to be a gamer, instead of just a casual gamer. w00t!
