Dell. Alienware. Together...
So, on the 15th, there was a post on /. about a possible acquisition of Alienware by Dell. This was first reported by Raul Sood (of Voodoo PC, on his blog). And now, these reports have been reported to be true, according to this article on pcmag.com.
Now, I'm not a huge fan of either company really. Dell's are overpriced for the quality of hardware they supply, from my experiences. Sure, they have an ok warranty, and you can get lucky. And sure, as far as big name companies go, I do prefer Dell over most others. Alienware is, in a similar situation in my opinion. They build overpriced systems. Sure, they are high end gaming systems. But aside from the quad-sli systems, I could build something of equivalent quality, or better, for less.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how this changes both companies, if at all.

Dell Bought Alienware But Nothing Changed!
I'm no big fan of Dell either but here in the UK Dell computers are not overpriced, you can pick up a dual core Vostro 1000 laptop for around £239 which is about $470.
In my opinion though Alienware laptops are definitely overpriced, despite being bought out by Dell. However there is a way to shave a few bucks of the purchase of a new Alienware laptop by signing up to the AlienExchange:
AlienExchange
As for how the Dell buyout of Alienware changed both companies, I don't believe it did. Alienware is still cranking out boutique laptops for the gaming crowd, and Dell still occupies a top 5 consumer computers slot.
