Nothing in particular. Stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else.

Adventures in Homebrewing - Part 1

Somewhere near four weeks ago, I mentioned the site on 'Our Beer', the 'open source' beer. When I saw that, I thought, damn, that looks good, and damn, brewing my own beer sounds like fun. Heck, I need a new hobby, so why not.

Now, I've been looking into this stuff quite a bit for the last week. I don't recall what inspired me, but I thought, damn, I really want to do this. It sounds like a lot of fun, and might be able to make some decent beer, and eventually wine, mead, cider, etc. Heck, might even try to make some scotch or whiskey some day.

So, this morning, I went over to say hi to mom and grandma, brought them over some mail, etc. We got to talking, and it turns out, my grandpa (who passed away around twelve years ago) used to make beer and wine as well. And as it turns out, we still had his old bench capper and caps! They now sit on my kitchen counter along side a large pressure cooker (it should work great for a brew pot), and the $100 worth of brewing supplies I bought earlier (Glass Carboy, Fermenter buckett, stuff for a light wheat beer, aka weissbier, etc).

Free Beer!

A group of students at IT-Univeristy in Copenhagen have created something freaking sweet!

Open Source Beer!.

Its an open source beer, licensed under a Creative Commons License, which can be modified, sold, etc as long as you give credit, and release your recipe under a similar license.

I will definately have to attempt this one of these days, sounds like fun :)

Enjoy!

Google Moon

Google has done it again. And presented an awesome little web app. This one is really just an extension of Google Maps and Google Earth, but take a look (moon.google.com)...

Welcome to Google Moon

In honor of the first manned Moon landing, which took place on July 20, 1969, we’ve added some NASA imagery to the Google Maps interface to help you pay your own visit to our celestial neighbor.

Also, they provided a little .. easter egg of sorts. Don't forget to zoom in ;)

Post Secret

Last night, I noticed another cool site in IRC. This one is Post Secret. Its a blog that posts post cards that people send in sharing their deep, personal secrets.

It is an excellent site, if for nothing else, then showing each and everyone of us that we are human and many of us share similar secrets. My favorite quote on the site isn't even a card that was sent in, rather, a comment:

Cool flash thingy

I really don't know how to start this one off, or how to describe this site. Or even to hint out how freaking awesome it is. Someone in IRC pointed me to this a couple days ago, and its just really freaking cool. And so, here is the link: http://www.izpitera.ru/lj/tetka.swf

I'm not sure what the point of it is, but you can click on the girl and drag her around or hold her. Its simple, and pointless, as far as I can tell, but its so freaking spiffy, you must check it out and play with it.

So, there you have it. Enjoy, have fun, let me know what you think!

One fish, two fish

Well then, it has been a while since I've posted anything, and I figured I should probably say something...

First off, for a couple quick updates and randomness, I saw Batman Begins on the 18th. Excellent movie, imho. It was 'the' batman movie for me. Everything fit and worked out the way my brain had imagined. Bale was an excellent choice. I'd elaborate more, but I'm too lazy right now, perhaps I'll get back in to doing reviews and whatnot again sometime soon. After I get everything finished the way I want, and get caught up on everything else I'm trying to work on.

And beyond that, nulldomain.com is going to undergo another major renovation soon. I'm probably gonna stick with drupal, but I'm not sure. In some ways, I'm not really looking forward to updating this theme for the next drupal (4.6.x), but we'll see. Potentially, I could move over to something like wordpress, but I don't think that is really going to do what I want it to. So, we'll see how things go... As for everything else... I plan on putting mediawiki on here at somepoint for wiki.nulldomain.com, at least.. thats the plan so far... but I may decide not to, not sure what its use would be just yet. gallery.nulldomain.com will probably be updated to gallery 2 soonish, since it kicks major a$$ compared to 1.4 in terms of the UI. But I need to make sure everything is backed up first, cause its going to be easiest to just start over..

April Fools!

Err.. yeah.. Today is 1 April, 2005. This means we'll have all kinds of cool hoaxes and jokes today. One of the best days ever :).

Before I say anything else, I would like to wish GMail a Happy 1st Birthday, and thank Google for providing excellent free web mail, and for giving us two! gigs of storage space, with more to come.

Last year, we heard 1gb and thought, thats a lot of freaking space! That'd take forever to fill up! And.. well.. while it will take a while, it won't take quite as long as one might expect. (my current usage is around 13mb, not too shabby). But, now, Google is seeking to improve their already awesome service. And its still beta!

Microsoft Learns l337sP34k

Yep, thats right folks. Microsoft knows leetspeak. And even have this neat little primer on learing it. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/children/kidtalk.mspx

Now, all seriousness aside. WTF!? Well, maybe not.. It still is rather hilarious though.

Anyways.. just thought I had to share that with the world.

Gmail Invites...

Well.. This is interesting. Apparently GMail decided I should give more people GMail... So I now have 50 more invites and nothing to do with them... If you want an account, leave a comment or send me an email and I'll hook ya up.

And... I think that will conclude this post for now.. I'll post more later or something.. I seem to have found another bug in my theme to, so I need to work that out now... *sigh* just when everything was going so well some other problem pops up. Oh well, thats life I suppose.
