Words from the null.

Ok now.. I've been lazy in the blogging department for sometime now. Time for some updates, and random.. blog type stuff..

To start off, Halloween wasn't bad. Roommate held a party the Friday before. Had plenty to drink and had a pretty damn good time. Started the night off watching Fragle Rock Season 1. Can't go wrong there :) And we have tentavely scheduled our next party for late December, early January. It'll be a Toga party!

And in other news, NaNoWriMo has officially kicked off. I got 1215 words just after midnight on the 1st at the midnight write-in. Didn't do any more until Thursday.. been busy with games and work and coding. I'm now at 1448, and I have the book-in-progress up in the book section on this site. This year, I have named my novel: Finger Painting with Death. Why? I'm not really entirely sure, but there ya go. So far, we meet Nikolas Lemalf (our dead protagonist), Artemis (the barkeep of The Overly Boisterous Badger Pub in Hades), and Dr Richard Blinkenlichter (Nikolas' friend/mentor for the last couple years of his life). Where is the book headed? I have no freaking clue, but I'm rather proud of some of what I've written (most of the good stuff is surrounded but utter, complete crap. But then again, that's what NaNo is all about, so I'm not going to complain).

Alright, so. It is approaching that time of year again. Yup, that is right, it is just under 51 days and 10 hrs until the kick off of the National Novel Writing Month. And, yes, I plan on participating again this year. Unfortunately, I have no idea what to write about.

For those that are not familiar (and I'm sure a large portion of the people that end up reading this lovely little blog are not familiar...), NaNoWriMo (shorthand for National Novel Writing Month) is a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. This equates to roughly a 175 page novel. To break that down a bit more, in order to meet this goal, you need to average 1,667 words a day. Everyday. For the month of November. Yup, its really quite insane, but quite fun as well. You get to meet new people if you go to the write-ins (in which case, more socializing then writing tends to happen, at least, that was the norm last year ;)). And you get to write. A lot. Check out the link above for more info, and in when the clock strikes October, sign up, and start preparing for a month of no sleep, lots of caffiene, and limited human interaction. (And yes, I know, the ptc people that read this are already pretty well adapted to that, but I figure I might as well warn anyways).

Ok, it is 2:28 on August 26th, the first day of the Penny Arcade Expo. The PAX doors opened for people like me 28 minutes ago, but I'm sitting here in a starbucks using up my free day of wireless access from t-mobile instead. Lines suck.

There is a lot to do this weekend, both at PAX and in other stuff in my life. Last night was a friends 21st birthday, and he seemed to have a pretty good time up until he began to throw up. Mental note for future reference: 151 and low amount of food in stomach != a good thing. Don't do it. :)

But in other news, life still sucks. I'm broke, and trying to figure out how to get my expenses in order, and get all my bills paid, without making my life go to the shitter, so to speak.. In a lot of ways, I feel like a fool, for chasing after someone that I really shouldn't have, but things have been straightened out (for more info.. if you're really curious, look at my posts around the 4th of July, they pretty much sum it all up..). The result sucks, but is for the best, it probably wouldn't have worked out in the end anyways.

Wow... its been a few days since I blogged... Oh well...

Well.. I haven't made any more progress on my novel.. I slacked off too much again this year.. And thats about the only real update I have right now.

Ok, so.. I was feeling adventurous before work, and quickly added rss feeds of my fellow local nano-friends that I know and have been hanging out with. They're available via the news aggregator thingy to the left. I'll add that to the top menu bar or something eventually, but I'm about ready to head to bed, so it'll have to wait until later.

Some habits die hard, and some never become habits. I've tried to blog this twice now, but keep hitting the dreaded Ctrl+W!

Anyways... I have now reached a total word count of 4,190, and have hit a block of sorts. The current chapter is just sounding like crap, and isn't really going anywhere. Oh well, perhaps next I'll start on chapter 4 and go back to 3 later.

Now, since I keep losing this, and keep forgeting what I wrote, I think I'm going to go back to writing now (after I update my NaNoWriMoProMe word count, and the NaNoWriMo forum word count).

Oh.. and, if anyone actually reads this before Wednesday night PST, I will be going on the air between 9:30 and 11:30 (tentively (sp?)) on Wednesday (the 10th of November). This will be my first stream in about a month I think, I hope to make it regularly, but I'm not sure when exactly just yet. I have new content and stuff I plan on playing, so be sure to tune into FreeMatrix Radio!.

Quick lame update. I just hit 3,000 words! I'm only like... 12,000 words behind now.

Ok, so, I skipped the radio show (which, looking at the IRC logs wasn't the best show ever, so I do feel better about missing it now :)), and went to see The Incredibles with the NaNo group. Excellent movie, very enjoyable, and very funny. I'm a huge fan of pixar, and always have been really, and The Incredibles is another excellent work by them.

And as for NaNo, i'm almost to 3,000 words, only 46 words short, which I should be able to get quick after I get up in the morning. Then I need to get started on the next chapter or two and get a good 5 or 6k done tommorow. At least. I'll still be behind, but at least I won't be screwed :)

Now, back to writing, so far behind.... and only 3 more hours before I need to head out for a movie and another write-in.

Ok.. well... the words were already written when I posted last, but I figured an excerpt of my horribly craptacular writting ability was in order...

This is from Chapter 2, (Skittles). I'm not quite sure how it works into the plot, of if it ever will, but its kind of memorable.

He reached into his pocket and fumbled around trying to find something. He wasn't quite sure what he was looking for, but he figured anything would do better then what he had right now, which was absolutely nothing. Coins. Empty gum wrappers. A piece of paper with the address of some business in some city far, far away. Hard Candy, but not skittles. A tiny, bite sized rubber ducky. A key to an old ford pickup that hasn't run in several years.
